Mallorca (from Latin, Maiorica 'big island') is the largest island in the Balearic archipelago, which forms an autonomous province, the easternmost of Spain. Many years ago, for its quiet environment was also known as The Island of calm.
It is the most populated island in the Balearic Islands and the second in Spain after Tenerife in the Canary Islands. 3625.75 km² and has 862,397 inhabitants according to the census of 2009 (population density: 257.85 inhabitants/km²).
Its capital and also the autonomous region, is Palma, Calvia followed in importance and Inca. Cabrera Island and all islands belong administratively to the capital.
Mallorca is a popular tourist destination, receiving more than 12 million visitors a year. The coasts of the island offer visitors spectacular cliffs areas and some of the most beautiful beaches and coves of the Mediterranean.
